As annoyed as the Boston College fan base was coming into today's home finale against UConn, those disgruntled supporters had very little to gripe about this afternoon, as BC made short work of overmatched UConn.
After a first quarter that featured more punts (5) than pass completions (4), Boston College (5-6, 1-6 ACC) began to assert itself. A 12-play, 60-yard drive ate up over seven minutes of clock midway through the second quarter, culminating in a Davon Jones one-yard touchdown run.
After UConn (3-8, 1-6 American) bungled a scoring opportunity of its own, BC put together another 12-play drive, this one going 63 yards and ending with a Mike Knoll field goal.
The Eagles then came out of intermission firing on all cylinders, as quarterback Patrick Towles hit Michael Walker for a 10-yard touchdown, then found Jeff Smith for a 54-yard completion to set up another Knoll field goal on the following drive.
By the time Matt Milano intercepted UConn quarterback Donovon Williams and ran it back for a 24-yard touchdown, the game was no longer in the balance.
The win keeps BC's bowl hopes alive, and the Eagles will have the chance to earn bowl eligibility next week in their ACC finale at Wake Forest. That game will kick off at 3 pm next Saturday in Winston-Salem.
