....while spending a Saturday night flipping between AHL hockey and St. Bonaventure basketball (Mark Schmidt vs. Shaka Smart). Yes kids, this is what your life will be like in 25 or 30 years.
1) I read an article in USA Today about the NFL considering changes to the extra point. They have to do something, right? After all, last year kickers made 99.6% of extra point attempts. Apparently not. While one popular proposal would move the extra point attempt from the 2 yard line to the 25, enough committee members are opposed to it to block it any change. Opponents' rationale: kickers who play for cold weather teams (e.g., the Bears) are kicking off grass and snow, while kickers in Detroit are kicking indoors. "It's a competitively unequal", said one GM. This kind of probing analysis effects two inescapable conclusions: a) These guys never took Logic class from Father Barrett, and b) They are very fortunate to have high paying jobs that require little analytical thinking.
The Bears aren't playing against the Lions with one team indoors and the other outdoors. No matter which team they're playing, both teams are playing on the same field at the same time. Their season ending records reflect games played against other teams under identical conditions. What morons...
2) Is anyone else tired of screaming, cheering public address announcers? I really miss the days when PA announcers were neutral and understated. Just one more curse the NBA has bestowed upon civilization.
3) 74: For a year now, I've been reading your Shaka Smart pleadings with only minimal appreciation for them. I had heard that Smart was a good coach, but I don't remember ever having seen VCU play.
Good Lord. They're suffocating. They run and press relentlessly, just like the Davis Williams teams of the 80s. I'm on board. Pay Shaka what he wants.
