I figured UConn would have a pretty good season this year in their first season dropping back down to the FCS level, participating in the "American Conference," whatever that is. But maybe not so much, I guess. At least they made the Big Lead, though.
Two upcoming BC opponents won their games last night, while one fell:
125 College Football Teams, Ranked And Explaind (Deadspin)
"71. BOSTON COLLEGE. Frank Spaziani and his mustache have been replaced by Steve Addazio and his mustache, which B.C. fans can only hope is the only thing they have in common. Given the bizarre circumstances of his promotion to head coach in 2009, and the inexplicable decision to give him a fourth year in 2012, Spaziani may go down as the worst hire of the past five years."
AD Brad Bates wants to build BC (ESPN Boston)
"Bates knew before he took the job in October there were game-day deficiencies on and off the field, and once he settled into his office overlooking Alumni Stadium he set to work on them. He fired Frank Spaziani after a 2-10 finish, hired Steve Addazio and a new staff to work with him and then started working on off-the-field issues.
The Eagles held town-hall-style meetings with season-ticket holders to find out what they could do to improve the game-day experience (beyond, you know, winning more games), starting with football but touching on all other sports, as well."
ACC Releases Preseason Cross Country Coaches' Poll (BCEAGLES.COM)
"The ACC released the preseason cross country coaches' poll on Thursday. The BC women's team ranked sixth out of 15 teams (149 points), while the men ranked 12th out of 14 teams (49 points). The women were also ranked 25th in the USTFCCCA preseason poll released earlier this week."
Q&A with Head Field Hockey Coach Ainslee Lamb (BCEAGLES.COM)
The Field Hockey team gets its season underway this afternoon at 1 PM against Vermont.
This whole thing is pretty adorable, but leads to one glaring question....
Kicking off a new era as a member of the Patriot League, the Boston University men's soccer team will open the seventh annual Terrier Tailgate against crosstown rival Boston College on Friday with action slated to begin at 5 p.m. After the contest at 7:30 p.m., the BU women's soccer team will host No. 11 South Carolina as part of the doubleheader.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early as the first 1,000 will receive a free BU soccer scarf. All BU fans will receive free admission and are asked to enter though Gate 1. There will also be free food from Raising Cane's along with games, prizes, face painting, and music.
..So all BU fans will receive free admission, it says - not just students. So... if I go to the game and say "sure, I'm a BU fan," I get free admission? If I cheer after BC scores, do they come find me in the crowd and ask for $5? Do they deny me free admission if I self-identify as a BU fan if I'm wearing a BC hat? Is this even allowed?
