As some of you might know, today the 2013 NHL Entry Draft was held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. It was an exciting night for all the prospects, and four BC Hockey Recruits were drafted!
Up first was Ian McCoshen, who was drafted with the first pick in the second round and 31st overall by the Florida Panthers. Next year he'll be joining fellow Panthers draft pick Mike Matheson (who was drafted in the first round last year) on the line.
The next recruit was only a few picks later. Steve Santini, another defenseman, was also drafted in the second round (42nd overall) by the New Jersey Devils. He'll be joining several former Eagles (Stephen Gionta, Corey Schneider) in the New Jersey system. As a Devils fan, I'm ecstatic.
The third recruit drafted actually will not be joining the team until the 2014-15 season. Zach Sanford is a forward, and was drafted with the last pick in the second round (61st overall) by the Washington Capitals.
Last but not least, Ryan Fitzgerald, a 2013-14 forward, was drafted in the fourth round and 120th overall by the Boston Bruins.
If you combine McCoshen, Santini, and Fitzgerald with Adam Gilmour (2012 3rd round - Minnesota Wild) and Chris Calnan (2012 3rd round - Chicago Blackhawks), that's five 2013-14 mens ice hockey recruits who will have been drafted by NHL teams.
In conclusion, it was a great night for Eagles Hockey. Congratulations to McCoshen, Santini, Fitzgerald, and Sanford on being drafted into the NHL!
