Earlier this year Athletic Director Brad Bates announced the "You are #1" campaign, a new strategy of showing BC fans and alumni that they mattered. After a series of town hall meetings, Bates rolled out his plan on improving the game day experience, mainly in game entertainment and tailgating.
The plan was great on energy and promise but was lite on actual details. BC promised to roll out these changes over the spring and summer, starting with affordable parking on Brighton Campus ($150), and today BC took a second step with the introduction of hospitality suites.
"As part of its "You're No. 1" campaign to enhance the football gameday experience for its fans, Boston College will offer three new pregame hospitality options on its Chestnut Hill and Brighton campuses for the 2013 football season. "We told our fans we would strive to present the best gameday experience in the ACC," Director of Athletics Brad Bates said. "When we surveyed and met with them earlier this year, they asked us to expand our pregame hospitality options. These three venues will give our fans new places to gather with family and friends before heading into the game, regardless of how they have arrived on campus.
The three hospitality areas - one located outside of Gate E of Alumni Stadium, one at O'Neill Plaza and one at 2101 Commonwealth Avenue on the Brighton campus - will feature a buffet meal, live broadcasts of other games from around the country and a cash bar for fans 21 and older. Prices range from $180 per person for a season pass to the Alumni Stadium tent to $150 per person for a season pass to the O'Neill Plaza and Brighton venues. Children between the ages of four and twelve will be charged half the adult price while children three and under will be admitted free. Fans may purchase the season passes online at www.bceagles.com/hospitality."
This is a great step in getting more people on campus early and allowing them to be outside with other tailgaters before the game. Before this, fans had the option of either going to Cityside or Roggies -- which was a hike, eating lousy burgers inside the dungeon of the Plex, or not tailgate at all.
Personally I want to see how tailgating times and prices change, but this is still a great option for Eagles' fans that are coming to one game out of town. Though the fact that it doesn't mention game by game pricing worries me a little. How many fans are going to use this option for every game?
Good job to Brad Bates and his crew on listening to fans and executing changes that the fans requested.
