2012 NCAA Football Relegation Week 4: Eagles Fall to 0-2 with 24-17 loss to Gophers

Minnesota QB Max Shortell threw three touchdown passes, two to A.J. Barker, leading the Golden Gophers to a 24-17 win over Boston College in the Relegation home opener at Alumni Stadium.

The Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead when Chase Rettig connected with Bobby Swigert on an 18 yard touchdown pass with 4:03 left in the 1st quarter, but Minnesota would respond with two TDs late in the 2nd quarter to carry at 14-7 lead to the intermission.

Nate Freese's 32 yard FG would inch the Eagles closer before UM answered with 10 straight points to build the lead to 24-10. Rettig would close the scoring with a 3 yard TD pass to Mike Naples accounting for the final margin.

BC once again held a slight edge in total offense, but Rettig was intercepted three times and completed just 20 of 54 attempts. The run game was once again held in check, averaging only 3.7 yards per rush on 32 carries.

BC (0-2) now travels to (back to???) Evanston, IL to take on Northwestern (2-1) next Saturday...which of course, since I am behind..is now this week! Will the result differ greatly from the game last week...we shall see!
