Over at the SBNation University of Tennesee blog Rocky Top Talk, they discussed what the goals of their Vols should be for this season. This got me thinking, what are some realistic goals for the season. Looking at the trainwreck that was the 2011 season, goals I thought that would be important came to me quickly
-
Get back to a bowl game. Any bowl game. As Brian alluded to earlier this month on the blog, this would be the year for the Eagles to move up to a more prestigious bowl due to UNC and Miami's sanctions. In order for this to happen, the Eagles need 6 wins. They can do it.
-
No bad losses to bad teams. Last year the Eagles lost four games they should have never lost (Northwestern, UCF, Duke and Wake Forest). With some good coaching and clock management most of those games could have been won--with the loss to the Knights being the exception. The Eagles can not drop a game to Army/Miami/Wake or Maryland this year.
-
Beat a Top 25 caliber team. If there is a year the Eagles could get Spaz his first win against a Top 25 year, this must be the year. They have Virginia Tech, Clemson, and Notre Dame at home. This team needs to win one of these games. Ride the home crowd to at least one win.
-
Keep it close against the Seminoles. Look, I am not expecting the Eagles to go into Tallahassee and beat the Noles, but can they at least stay in the game? Absolutely. Show FSU that the Eagles are not going to roll over against a more talented roster, and stay within two scores for most of the game.

Score more than 24 points in at least half of their games. Last year the Eagles only scored 24 ore more points three times. In order for this team to win, they are going to need to score points.
These were five goals that I thought would be crucial to a successful season for the Eagles. Of course you could create more goals based more on player performance, but in this instance I kept it with team performance. Do you agree with my goals? Or would you add something else? Make sure to leave your thoughts in the comments!
