Hard to believe the 2012-13 athletic year is already upon us. It's been far too long.
The Boston College women's soccer team kicked things off last night with a decisive 3-0 victory over the visiting Providence Friars. (Who else but) Kristen Mewis opened up the scoring on the year and added an assist on Freshman McKenzie Meehan's first career goal. Junior midfielder Patrice Vettori added the Eagles final goal in the 54th minute on a header.
BC senior Alexa Gaul started in net for the Eagles, recording her first career shutout. The game marked the first time in four years that a goalkeeper not named Jillian Mastroianna didn't start.
The women's team has the week off before traveling to Storrs to take on UConn on Friday night.
The men's team has one final exhibition game this afternoon in Queens against St. John's (3 PM) before opening up the season next Friday at Quinnipiac (4 PM).
Go Eagles!
