ESPN college basketball writer Eammon Brennan has just completed a series of articles rating the best and worst coaching jobs in the country by conference. Not surprising that the Boston College job was not looked at as one of the best jobs in the ACC, but the shock might have been that it was picked dead last -- 12 of 12, and I am sure if you add Syracuse and Pittsburgh, 14 out of 14.
Lots of talk as usual of the pitfall of coaching a program in a pro sports town, but to say that John Wooden would have trouble rebuilding the program, that's pretty strong stuff.
The BC basketball program has been up and down over the past 30 years, but has certainly experienced more success than Miami, Virginia Tech, Clemson and Florida State, despite its status at present. Big East regular season and tournament championships, a trip to the ACC tournament title game, a 20-0 Big East start, 3 trips to the Elite 8 and a consistent presence in the NCAA tournament speaks to a program that although perhaps not elite, is certainly one that should be respected in college basketball circles.
Yet another grenade tossed at the scarred battlefield that is currently Chestnut Hill.
