The Boston College baseball team traveled to the Portland Sea Dog's Hadlock Field for a non-conference game on Tuesday. Sadly, Birdball came away with a 9-4 loss that sent BC to just 21-31 overall on the year.
Senior Andrew Lawrence tallied a 2-for-4 performance with a home run and a single. The three-run shot put the Maroon and Gold up, 3-2, in the sixth. Maine came back to take the lead in the seventh, scoring four runs.
Senior RHP Kyle Prohovich (1-3) shouldered the loss, pitching 1.1 innings of relief, giving up two hits, three runs and one walk, while striking out two. Freshman starter lefty Nick Poore threw the first two innings, allowed three hits, two runs and two walks.
Though Portland's Hadlock Field was an unfamiliar venue for both programs, with yet another road/neutral loss in the books, the Eagles continue their Jekyll and Hyde season playing away from Chestnut Hill versus at home. BC is now just 6-21 in true road games, 10-23 in road/neutral games and three games over .500 (11-8) in home contests.
The Eagles return home to host Duke in the regular season finale starting on Friday. BC needs a strong showing this weekend -- and a bunch of help -- if the program hopes to make this year's ACC Baseball Championship.
