Could Boston College Basketball Land A Transfer Or Two This Offseason?

[Ed. note -- Front Page'd]

Over the last few days, transfers across the country have announced their decisions. So, can Donahue snag one of these guys? Well, let's look at some possible BC transfers:

Evan Smotrycz, Michigan: This is probably the guy with the best chance of coming to BC. He was recruited by the Don out of high school, and apparently has a good relationship with him. His transfer was a surprise to Michigan, as he was expected to be a key factor for the Wolverines next season. He fits BC well and would replace Matt Humphrey if he comes. He has interest from BC, Clemson, Colorado, USC, Butler, Baylor, Alabama, Xavier, Oregon, Temple, Saint Bonaventure, UMass, Providence and George Washington.

Alex Oriakhi, UConn: As us BC fans normally hate UConn, but we thank them for once for letting Oriakhi go. Oriakhi is exactly what BC needs: rebounding and shot blocking. He would allow the Don a lot of flexibility. Plus, if he goes to BC, we get to laugh at UConn demise even more. There will be a lot of teams that want him from all over the country, but when URI was mentioned as a possible landing spot, it's clear to me he wouldn't mind staying in New England. EagleAction.com says he does consider BC, but I see this one as a bit of a long shot. Another plus is that he would be eligible right away if UConn stays banned from the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

Brendan Lane, UCLA: There was a lot of buzz about Lane that BC might go after him about a week ago. However, that buzz has died down and Lane said he probably wants to go to a mid-major. This isn't out of the possibility, but I doubt this one happens.

Tony Gill, Cosumnes River Community College: The JUCO recruit was supposed to visit BC last week, but his flight was cancelled and he had to reschedule. He's probably the backup plan if Oriakhi doesn't pick BC, as he has very impressive rebounding and shot-blocking numbers. He would likely backup Anderson at the 4.

Brandon Parga, Citrus College: Parga hasn't had much going on the recruiting trail, but he'd be a solid JUCO pickup. He can really shoot the ball, but can't do much else. Would be a solid pickup, but doubt this one happens.
