Super Bowl XLVI: Giants Vs. Patriots Open Thread

Photo

The school with the most players on tonight's Super Bowl rosters is down to just three. The Giants' Mark Herzlich is inactive for tonight's Super Bowl against the Pats. Bittersweet for the former Boston College linebacker who overcame the odds and reached the Super Bowl in his first pro season.

Also inactive for tonight's game -- if you believe Bill Belichick's injury report -- is Patriots DT Ron Brace.

With center Dan Koppen also out for the season, that leaves just three Eagles that will see the field tonight -- guard Chris Snee, linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka and return man Will Blackmon. They all play for the Giants (hint, hint).

Brace and Koppen or Blackmon, Herzlich, Kiwanuka and Snee look to become only the 23rd and 24th (and 25th and 26th) former Boston College Eagles to win a Super Bowl. Snee (XLII), Kiwanuka (XLII) and Steve DeOssie (XXV) are the only Eagles to have won the Super Bowl with the Giants, while Koppen (XXXIX, XXXVIII), Damien Woody (XXXVIII, XXXVI), Mike Cloud (XXXVIII) and Chris Sullivan (XXXVI) have all won as members of the Patriots.

Leave your thoughts on the game below. For more on Pats, check out Pats Pulpit and Big Blue View for the Giants.

And to the Giants, please don't make me watch Jimmy Fallon / Drew Barrymore dreck.

Blackmon On Punts

I close my eyes when he is out there.

I am still stickin with Pats 40-27, but would love to see Giants win in OT!

Pats offensive line has been silent all week. I see Giselle’s Boy riddling the Giants like New Orleans did inside a dome.

Again, Gianst were a tad mouthy including ther web site!

Safety first score of the game? That’s like hitting 0 or 00 on the roulette wheel. Fail.

by Brian Favat on Feb 5, 2012 6:58 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Say one more thing about my Giselle and you got trouble!

I think I have seen her in more different colored undies than my wife…and of course since my wife is looking over my shoulder, my wife looks much hotter and better!!

Who here pissed off my Giselle Cubby Bear?

Welker had an excuse.

That was behind him high and outside to the wrong shoulder and he was spinning at full speed?

The other 2 drops were the reason they lost and Welker shoulda moved close to the scrum on the Hail Mary and had an easy 6?

I want to know whihc one of you Mooks pissed off my Giselle!!!

Pats extremely lucky to be up 1 at half. Hopefully will be an entertaining second half.

Go Giants!

by Brian Favat on Feb 5, 2012 7:53 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Lucky? Whatever, the Giants got 9 points off the Patriots being stupid. That won’t be happening again.

And the Pats played like ass for every drive except for the last one.

by Brian Favat on Feb 5, 2012 7:57 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Giants were losing 10-9 at the half in 87. Went on to win ~40-27.

Enjoy!

That Cushion Arrow

I have a face twitch and partial spasm when I saw that word and thought…… if they had that on the BC defense the past 15 years……. you would need a wider TV screen….

Philip Rivers and Norv Turner

The best was when Eli and Phil were switched in the draft since the Manning family brilliantly told that idiot cheap owner Spanos and stooge GM Smith, (A GM that lost a first round draft pick when he failed to trade Brees to the Jets for a number 1 pick before Drew became a free agent the next year that I scorched) ….that Eli would never play for the Chargers!

Norv is a Marty Schottenheimer loser clone.

You need it all and it starts with intensity, focus and a leader and that man was Tom Coughlin.

BC needs to find another TC…quickly!

Absolutely

BC connections to game just one more sad reminder of how far a once good program has fallen. Spaz and DeFelip must go if we’re ever to get back to being good.

I am a sad and defeated man today.

Congrats to Brian and all the Giants fans out there at BCI.

You know what would pull me out of this pity party? A BC BEANPOT TITLE. GO EAGLES

Tough to swallow. Tougher to be in NYC as a Pats fan too. This stings.

Only reason to be happy is that this probably got Tom Coughlin into the HOF. Couldn’t have happened to a greater person and representative of BC.

Bradshaw was crushed by Collingsworth for getting into the endzone on the last drive. How many Super Bowls did Cris Collingsworth win?

It’s the right call to score there. If you lose that game on a missed FG, BC-Duke style, that would be utter clownshoes and you’d never be able to live with yourself.

Also, Wes Welker. Wow. Catches that ball 95 times out of 100.

by Brian Favat on Feb 6, 2012 1:55 PM EST via mobile reply actions

According to Collinsworth, Welker would have caught that 100 times out of 100.

He catches that more often than not. Not Brady’s best throw by any means.

Definitely think the Tuck hit had a major impact on his should (and probably his head).

by hoyaeagle on Feb 6, 2012 5:19 PM EST up reply actions

Brady hadn’t played well in a couple of weeks. Didn’t play well against Baltimore.

The Welker drop was probably a 50/50 ball … half the blame goes to Welker, half to Brady (but not if you ask Gisele).

by Brian Favat on Feb 6, 2012 8:23 PM EST up reply actions

Collingsworth is a buffoon.

by Brian Favat on Feb 6, 2012 8:23 PM EST up reply actions

Snee 4 MVOL

Also might have been no bigger play in the game than Chris Snee’s fumble recovery. Giants cough up the ball there and it is game over.
