Boston College Football Recruiting: Michael Giacone Switches Commitment From Rutgers To BC

Three-star tight end Michael Giacone, who originally committed to Rutgers, has switched his commitment to Boston College, according to Scout.com's Brian Dohn. Giacone ranks No. 23 at his position by Rivals and No. 28 by Scout. Giacone verbally committed to Rutgers this past summer but due to Schiano's recent departure from Piscataway, switched his commitment.

Giacone (6-foot-5, 246 pounds) played at New Jersey City's St. Peter's Prep and is the No. 19 rated prospect in the state, according to Rivals.

Having missed out on Oklahoma-bound Sam Grant and Harvard-bound Jameson McShea, this is a good get for Spaz and the coaching staff. Boston College has just four offensive skill position commitments in the Class of 2012 on an offense that ranked 112th nationally in total offense last season.

It will be interesting to see if BC can also add Rutgers commit Steve Longa to the 2012 class, who along with Giacone, visited campus last weekend. Longa came back from his visit impressed with BC, but remains unsure. Saddle Brook coach Leo Ciappina told The Record:

"Ever since Schiano left, he's been a little unsure of what he wants to do," Saddle Brook coach Leo Ciappina said. "He had a good time at Boston College, liked what he saw, and he still came back a little unsure."

In addition to BC, Longa is also looking at Maryland and will visit College Park this weekend. Longa will likely wait after Wednesday to make a final decision.

Welcome to the Heights, Michael!

Great news. Also just saw they received a commitment from David Dudeck, a 2-star (Rivals) ATH with at least 1 other D-1A offer!

What other D-IA school? I know he was deciding between BC, Yale and Navy (where his brother plays).

Dudeck

I for one am thrilled that when Hampton Hughes graduates, we will have another Hampton Hughes waiting in the wings.

Spaz is taking our advice and just get warm bodies to tie up scholarships for four years.

not so

This is a quality recruit. Your negativity know no bounds. Say something positive for once.

Giacone is and I am very happy Spaz got him.

Dudeck got an offer because his father is coach of a football team.

Kinda shocked that Dudeck didn’t pick Yale over BC. I thought the Ivy League > BC every time, no? #McShea’d

High school 40 times are a joke.

by hoyaeagle on Jan 31, 2012 2:04 PM EST up reply actions

and for proof, you are offering exactly what?

by eagleosprey on Jan 31, 2012 2:29 PM EST up reply actions

I’m going out and clocking every recruit in the country to check their times against Rivals, Scout, and ESPN.

But seriously, a lot of these times are bogus. Never trust 40 times for high school athletes because most of them are done by their coaches which will err on the side of giving his kid a bump.

aaahhhh.. You offer your untested and unverified opinion that there must be factual error in the h.s. 40-yard times based on your knowledge of the human condition and base motivations

Osprey

I wish all of your dribble and diarrhea could be posted all over the USA so people with historical knowledge and even HS scouts can tell you as I posted the video of Patrick Peterson in shorts warp blaze 4.34, that you are a disrespectful BC twinkie to guys who have a far wider knowledge base and refute your facts and analysis.

Go to the JZ thread and tell me if you think this kid from Canada can run a 4.34 like PP who was Mel Kiper’s top rated player of all players in 2011’s NFL Draft because of his…

….er….

4.34 SPEED!!!

All you do is muck up this site with RCMBC with defeatist, we are who we are, well we are an academic blah blah blah…

But the facts on every reply prove you to be stupid and arrogant which is a fatal combination.

ENJOY!

now, 74

all of your dribble and diarrhea

prove you to be stupid and arrogant

we’ve talked about you reverting to your highly rude EO form and how that is not a good thing. Right? You do not want to go back to that ugly stuff.

I am not calling you names.

Yes, I think you ideas are wrong and your perspective horrid, but I do not know you and you do not know me. There is big difference between me not liking your ideas and me hurling personal rude insults your way.

Argument is good. Insults and personal bs are not. and if you think I cross that line, my apologies. I strive not to do so.

Any problem with that 74?

by eagleosprey on Jan 31, 2012 4:45 PM EST up reply actions

Who is We?

You started continually bashing my posts of analysis?

We? You got a mouse in your pocket?

I have shown no disrespect, no vugarity and the EO was a whole different set of rules, but make no mistake, you threw many first stones and as is my 9 year style, I wait, and then destroy.

I shall cease and FYI, there is not too much left for me to post until Labor Day except my Season Preview so rest assured I have emptied the wagon train.

You crossed the line and I did cross it also and yes I can be the same more arrogant and accept my apologies.

One thing you will never top me on, is I absolutely detest with every cell in my soul LOSING and not just that…

THE WAY BC HAS LOST SINCE TOB and SPAZOO were together and separated.

BC run by GDF is CLOWNSHOES!

by BCEagle74 on Jan 31, 2012 6:01 PM EST up reply actions

Not shocked

Those who blindly follow Coach Flip and the Spazoo Express will also blindly follow the 40 times on Rivals as well.

Wonder why Scout doesn’t even have a profile of this “quality recruit” Osprey…

by hoyaeagle on Jan 31, 2012 4:39 PM EST up reply actions

Not Shocked you do not have any Argument

Now this is an interesting combination of the ad hominen attack combined with exaggeration/distortion/fabrication and resort to perceived unchallengable higher authority. And it does not work AT ALL.

See, Hoya would like to say that I am a blind GDF and Spaz follower, but he knows that is incorrect. Being hopeful about future success is a far cry from being blind follower. ERGO: Non-sequitor.

Then Hoya takes a shot a 4.47 Dudeck and suggests that because BC is the only major offer (Navy too), Duds must not be any good. Says we can’t rely on his 40 time because he thinks the coach pulled a fast one. Heck, Dudeck could really run a 5.47. Maybe BC never checked b/c AJ said to get warm bodies??? Hoya seems to have no faith in BC and looks for external validation for views.

and then he leans on the Scout if it were some kind of authority on recruits →> as in “If Scout does not list Dudeck, he can’t be good” This too is a foolsh argument.

A little too snarky too Hoya.

Try again my faux nemisis

by eagleosprey on Jan 31, 2012 4:57 PM EST up reply actions

I’m skeptical of all 40 times…5-star, 2-star, no star. It’s high-school recruiting rankings, times, etc. A lot of times they fluff the numbers so everyone thinks that these kids can fly.

You said “he has 4.47 speed” because you saw some nugget on Rivals that said so. I don’t think it’s an absolute truth and YES, I question his ability since he had one other Division 1-A offer and that he doesn’t even show up in another scouting services directory.

Sorry I’m not jumping for joy for this kid like you are because Spaz beat out Navy for this athlete.

I said I hope he becomes the next Jamie Silva. I hope he ends up being one of the all-time greats. Sorry I don’t share your same enthusiasm and can’t jump on the Coach Flip and Spazoo Express.

I think EO’s point is that instead of getting down on the number of stars, we should be hoping that these guys are our next NFL level talent.

Boston College, Class of 2010

Polar Bear

My point if you read my last posts is that stars and talent ratings do really matter!

Why hope against hope that 10 to 15 low 2 and 3 stars kids can break through which are the exceptions and %’s were in my old post on the other subject thread, when you can be like our peer schools NOW academically and get much higher rated kids and have a better chance at a BCS Game or success?

That is all I and all are saying?

We had Tommy C. Logan and Jags and that made our coaching talent levels higher and a better chance with their knowledge and experience coaching, but SPAZOO??

Please cease this Panglossian Puke.

Our staff sucks. Our level of coaching experience and resumes suck!

Ryan “Empty Laminated Resume” Day is worthless.

SPAZOODENFREUDE…. don’t make it a diseased mindset on this site!

Even Nick Saban would have trouble winning with the last 4 years of Spazoo recruited talent.

I love the kids. I love BC! But facts and talent are the deal?

I love the kids. I love BC! But I love to hate BC football (it gives me a thrill). And It will nevah, ever, evah, meet my expectations.

This get reflected a lot of tenacity and effort by Spaz’s staff. Let’s hope they can continue with these positive recruiting efforts in the next critical few days and keep letting recruits that BC has a lot to offer.

4.60 Speed and 4.34 Speed

This is the difference in 40 yards between and NFL Pro Bowl Cornerback or WR with warp speed …………….and you can fill in the blanks yourself.

Go look at the speed/distance charts. HELLO???

On my old highlight films, (black and white of course), I am Paul Warfield and Bobby Mitchell.

Then one hit and I would be dead?

Joel Zoungrana
Hometown: Montreal, Quebec
Position: Wide Receiver
Height: 6-0
Weight: 183 lbs
40: 4.6 (though in his highlight reel it says he runs a 4.34)
