Bleacher Report further discredits itself with mistaken belief that Montel Harris is not returning in 2012

BR wrote an article on Harris saying he was gone. About half the article discusses how sad it is the way Montel Harris ended his collegiate career, and how he will be the only skill player BC will be missing next year. Apparently, their writers do no research and have absolutely no clue what they are talking about. This is not a minor mistaken statistic, this is whether perhaps the most talented player on the team is returning or not. Very sad, but not surprising.

Perhaps they were mistaking Montel Harris for Ifeanyi Momah …

Yeah, maybe slightly on the warpath, but...

In the same article they also say, “We’ll have to wait and see if coach Frank Spaziani returns as that could affect the type of offensive system the Golden Eagles employ in 2012.”

As much as you don’t want him to return 74, GDF made it clear he’s gonna be back. So with two fairly significant mistakes, I maintain that those staff writers are quite neglectful in their research duties. It would take someone about 5 minutes of google research to discover the truth.

If I had to guess, I’d say they dont know about Harris returning and they aren’t tracking the Momah appeal at all…

MONTEL HARRIS

Don’t discredit this rumor. Montel has to graduate in order to be allowed to transfer for his recently granted red shirt year. He will graduate and will transfer. Can you say Russell Wilson?

The program has to release him in order for Harris to pull a Russell Wilson. What is the incentive for BC to release him?

I have yet to see..

that he actually is returning. If he does in fact ask to be transferred, then BC should grant him his wish. The incentive? BC can ill afford to get into a pissing match in the press about this. If you think recruiting is bad now, this surely wouldn’t improve the situation. With the current roster, By remaining at BC, Montel isn’t going to do anything to potentially improve his NFL draft stock, which is “iffy” to begin with. Sure…they could give him the ball 400 more times and he could pile up a bunch of yards, but the only people impressed with that are diehard Montel fans. No NFL team is going to jump at drafting an over worked horse. BC also risks the real possibility of losing the services of RBs already on the team. BC didn’t recruit a RB this season and they hardly can afford to get down to one RB like they did in the FS game last year.

Pissing match in the press? This story will barely register in the Globe or Herald, much less on a national stage.

IF this situation comes about, and it’s still a big IF, I can see it being mentioned in the Game Notes at the bottom of a Blaudschun puff piece.

ok..

so it probably won’t make the NY Times, but it will appear in places that are read and frequented by these same 2 and 3 star recruits that are jumping ship this season. And it’s a given that current players will be hear about it. BC can not afford any more bad news. It just can’t.

Kinda like how the real Kevin Rogers story got out?

There is zero media scrutiny on the Boston College football program, despite the fact that BC plays in a top 10 market. Gene has won every PR battle along the way — Inglese, TOB, Jags, not firing Spaz in the offseason. You don’t think that GDF will win the PR spin battle if Montel decides to transfer?

Again, this seems to be putting the cart way before the horse. I just don’t see the incentive for Harris to transfer for his senior season when he’s close to breaking the ACC’s all-time rushing record. In all likelihood, Harris wouldn’t be allowed to transfer to an ACC program or another program on BC’s 2012 schedule. He would run the risk of further dropping his NFL Draft stock if he wasn’t as successful running the ball in another offense, which he likely would considering that program wouldn’t run him into the ground like Spaz/Tranq did in 2009-10.
