Army And Boston College Agree To Swap Home Football Dates In 2012, 2013

The Army and Boston College football programs have agreed to exchange home dates for the 2012 and 2013 seasons, according to a release on goarmysports.com.

"The Army Athletic Association and Boston College have announced an agreement to exchange home dates for their scheduled meetings in 2012 and 2013. The Eagles will now visit Michie Stadium on Oct. 6, 2012 with the Black Knights traveling to Chestnut Hill on Oct. 5, 2013."

This scheduling move leaves the Eagles with just six home games in 2012. Boston College will host Notre Dame, Maine, Maryland, Clemson, Virginia Tech and Miami at Alumni Stadium, and will travel to Northwestern, Army, Wake Forest, N.C. State, Florida State and Georgia Tech.

In 2013, the Eagles will gain a seventh home game as they will now host the Black Knights on October 6, 2013. Barring changes to the ACC football schedule to accommodate the additions of Syracuse and Pittsburgh for the 2013 season, BC will host Syracuse, Stony Brook, Wake Forest, N.C. State, Florida State and Georgia Tech at home. The Eagles travel to USC, Maryland, Clemson, North Carolina and Virginia Tech.

The 2014 meeting between the Eagles and Black Knights is scheduled for November 8, 2014 at Yankee Stadium.

While the Eagles lose a home game this season only to gain a seventh in 2013, I would have preferred to see BC play seven home games this coming year instead of in 2013. With Virginia Tech, Florida State, Clemson and Notre Dame all on the 2012 sched, this year's schedule difficult enough as it is. Though Army finished the year just 3-9, the Black Knights did win all three games at Michie Stadium -- 21-14 over Northwestern, 45-6 over Tulane and 55-0 over Fordham. Army's lone home loss in 2011 was a 23-20 loss to San Diego State.

No hole in the schedule. Just swapping out home dates.

I think this is more related to accommodating the Syracuse and Pitt adds for 2013.

ok i see

the game against Army was already on the schedule.

what is the GDF thinking here? We will have pretty good attendance in 2012, so we do not need to add more. But we need more fans at home in 2013 b/c the home match upin 2013 won’t likely bring as many fans as the 2012 slate?

The 2013 schedule

Do we know that Syracuse will travel to BC when they join the ACC? Or is that what was part of our original non-conference agreement with Syracuse?

So very possibly could change and will open up a non-conference game for us (if ACC sticks to 8 game schedule)?

by hoyaeagle on Jan 24, 2012 1:25 PM EST up reply actions

I’m thinking more and more that the ACC will stay at an 8 game schedule going forward. Especially with the SEC staying at 8 and the Big Ten reversing its decision on a 9 game axed with the new PAC-12 deal.

A 9 game conference sched only had minimal support to begin with and has been shot down multiple times before.

I think the southern schools will want to keep the flexibility of an 8 game sched to accommodate their SEC rivalry games and ease path to BCS. The northern schools probably also want the flexibility to play Notre Dame, a I-AA and schedule other national non-conference games.

So is there any chance we have to do what some of the Pac-12 teams did and play Syracuse as a non-conference game even when they are in the ACC in 2013?

Not really, no.

Both schools will just cancel the rest of the series and find another opponent in 2013 if Syracuse is in the ACC by then. Syracuse backed out of the games in 2011 and 2012.

My guess is Gene is either already looking for an extra game / year in 2014- or waiting to see if the conference will move to a 9-game scheduling format.

The only situation where I see BC and Syracuse keeping the date as a intra-conference non-conference game is if the ACC screws us and puts Cuse in the Coastal while BC keeps Virginia Tech as a protected cross-over. That would give BC-Cuse another game in the series, since we’d only draw the Orange every few years.

Thought the 9 game schedule is a done deal? Additional inventory helps justify reopener for ESPN contract?

by CSOM_97 on Jan 24, 2012 5:52 PM EST up reply actions

Don’t think it is a done deal, especially with the SEC stating they will stay at 8 and the Big Ten going back to 8 with the Pac-12 deal.

Think there is still a mix of opinions on 9-games.

Conference did just get a boost to TV inventory moving to an 18-game hoops schedule starting next season, so there’s that too.

That makes for a cool road trip a year earlier than planned. I’ve heard its a pretty unique gameday experience and obviously just a short drive away.

I Miss Michie Stadium - What a great tailgating Experience!

Unlike BC, the lower huge lots for playing football and grilling were fabulous overlooking the Hudson.

Walking around was spectacular and the buildings made you feel realize President’s and greatness walked those grounds.

No one bothered you, great crowds, and except for one brutally cold day, those games were special and the Cadets made you proud to be an American.

Don’t miss it kids.

I may be in the singular minority but with UMASS, Maine, Stoned Brooks, Buffalo — I want a 9 game ACC schedule with 6 in your division and 3 versus the Coastal. This way you play every Coastal team 3-5 years or whatever.

Go cheer on the EAGLES!

90 minutes for me.

Michie Stadium is a great venue. Last year, the Northwestern Alumni Association organized a floating tailgate with boats departing from NYC up the Hudson to West Point.

Hopefully the BC Alumni Association will organize something similar this year.

This sounds very intriguing with the drive. Shame the Athletic department will force the students to go to West Point on their own.

an incredible venue

I have been fortunate enough to see roughly 10 BC-Army games at Michie thru the years and absolutely love the venue. The tailgating, the Cadets on parade on the plain, the entire atmosphere and just realizing where you are and the incredible line of American leaders who have attended West Point. For those of you who have not been, forget about the game itself, which may or may not be good, just to take the trip to West Point and experience it is well worth it. As far as sending students..there’s a decent chance they don’t even send the band. The last time BC played there in 2000 there was no band, so I doubt sending students is on their radar.

Get there early and enjoy

Cadet corp marching in…beautiful Hudson River…history…great Autumn leaf colors…my personal favorite is the cadet skydiving unit:

You hear the helicopter rotors out of site, then 4 black dots bloom into four chutes as the cadets circle and each lands on the shield at the center of the field, timed perfectly in sequence. The last cadet pulls the game ball from his/her pack and hands it to the referee.
