Boston College Soccer Starts Season Ranked 13th Nationally
The Boston College men's soccer team will begin the 2011 season as the 13th ranked team in the nation, according to College Soccer News:
13. Boston College - The talent level of this team is too good to overlook. This group will take a shot at the ACC Championship and a sustained run in the NCAA Tourney. The Eagles return a ton of talent from the 2010 team led by junior forward Charlie Rugg (8g, 2a) who was an All-ACC First Team selection. Senior Conor Fitzpatrick and junior Kyle Bekker (4g, 5a) who was a an All-ACC Second Team selection return in the midfield. The Boston College backline will be hard to crack with the return of juniors Colin Murphy and Kevin Mejic and sophomore central defender Chris Ager. Junior Justin Luthy, who has been the starter in goal for the past two seasons, returns between the pipes. Some other programs in the ACC have retooling to do, but that is not the case for Boston College who should hit the ground running. If the Eagles gain momentum they will be a difficult team to tangle with.
The Eagles finished last season with a 10-5-5 record, falling to North Carolina in the ACC semifinals and bowing out of the first round of the NCAA Tournament with a 2-1 loss to Brown.
BC begins its 2011 campaign on August 26 as the Eagles host George Mason. Conference play opens with a match against defending ACC champ Maryland on September 9. A total of seven of the Eagles' 17 regular season matches will be played against teams ranked in the CSN preseason Top 30, including North Carolina (3), Connecticut (7), Maryland (8), Brown (10), Virginia (12), Duke (16) and Wake Forest (25).

Big East soccer is fairly weak compared to the ACC
The best program in the conference — Louisville — was in Conference USA when BC was in the Big East.
The move to the ACC has given both the BC men and women’s soccer teams a huge boost. One of the underrated perks of joining the ACC. The BC men’s team is also the only program to have won an ACC championship for the school.
ACC ranked programs (6 of 9) — North Carolina (3), Maryland (8), Virginia (12), Boston College (13), Duke (16), Wake Forest (25)
Big East ranked programs (4 of 16) — Louisville (1), UConn (7), Notre Dame (11), West Virginia (22)
All but three of the programs in the ACC are ranked in the preseason Top 30 — Clemson, Virginia Tech and N.C. State the others. In contrast, just 4 of 16 Big East programs are ranked, and top-seeded Louisville plays in a division with no other ranked programs.
