Boston College Fans Ranked #96 Among NCAA Fanbases In Social Media Usage

#BCEagles #TwitterFAIL

The website Sports Fan Graph tracks Twitter followers and Facebook 'Likes' for different college athletics programs and conferences. Boston College currently ranks 96th behind such college athletics powerhouses as the Rhode Island Rams (86) -- which play FCS football -- and the Georgia State Panthers (88), which started playing FCS football just last season.

In the ACC, BC was only ranked higher than Virginia Tech and Virginia, whose ADs apparently never saw the movie The Social Network, and Maryland, which despite having, like, invented the search engine, doesn't have a Twitter account or Facebook page listed on the site.

Seriously though ... 96th?! This is fixable, people.

All you have to do is start following @bcsportsnews on Twitter and 'like' Boston College Athletics on Facebook (and hell, while you are at it, be sure to follow us on Twitter, and 'like' us on Facebook too). Each Superfan that does this will improve BC's standings by 2 whole points! We are gunning for you, TCU. You can kiss 95th place goodbye, silly Horned Frogs.

Complete rankings for the ACC programs below (stats as of this writing).

You reminded me that my twitter account still exists just in time to catch Jared Dudley’s play-by-play and color commentary about the Casey Anthony verdict.

And fascinating BC talk from Brian and I.

hey!

u didn’t like my retweeting of BCH’s birthday wish?

by waterwater on Jul 7, 2011 10:18 AM EDT up reply actions

I removed the comment

Simply erring on the side of caution. There’s just been a bunch of name-calling / personal attacks recently, so I removed anything that looked vaguely suspect or didn’t add value, like the GS crew freaking out on us.

it wasn’t even vaguely name calling

maybe the “b—b” word was too much

don’t become too cautious

Breathe

We still have a long way to go before the season. Moderating for troll and troll-like comments is above my pay grade and quite frankly a waste of everyone’s time.

Let’s just keep the comments focused on the thread topics and let’s not bring personal twitter account comments and name-calling into the community. We have a good thing going here. Let’s not devolve into an inane Big East program message board.

I’m not going to apologize for being overly cautious after being called a few things by one extremely over-zealous GS fan, who has since been banned from the community.

ahem . . .

The post is about BC fans leveraging social media to connect with the program and the blog; not random tweets from one of our personal Twitter accounts.

GS = Great Scott.

You've overlooked Coach Spaz...

and his Twitter account. I believe you can find his posts by searching the hashtag #gonnnabetough

That almost reads Anemi Coffense. I thought this was some strange Japanese cartoon about coffee.

Maybe just #anemic and #RunRunRunPunt?

That’s NyQuil’s favorite trend!

Retweeted that before every series last year, no matter what the score or situation was.

Notable exception

With the Eagles trailing, offense gets the ball with 2 minutes left in the half. Then the appropriate Twitter hash tag is:

Community PSA

We don’t have a lot of rules around here, but one of the main ones is to respect each other and our opponents. As such, please refrain from name-calling and/or other personal attacks.

And if you absolutely must resort to “name-calling,” please do so in a way where several “key phrases” are placed in quotations so that no one can “see the forest for the trees.” Semper Fi.
