Preseason All ACC Team Announced: Luke Kuechly and Montel Harris Selected

The ACC just announced the 2011 Preseason All-ACC ll this afternoon and two BC players made the team. You will never guess who. OK, it was Luke Kuechly and Montel Harris. Votes came from the media who voted this weekend during the ACC Kickoff Event. Kuechly and Harris led all ACC players in voting, with only one media member not voting for them. Whoever that person is should have their credentials yanked until they watch a football game. Florida State and Miami had the most players selected (4), while Georgia Tech, Maryland, N.C. State and Virginia were only represented by one player.

The breakdown by team goes as follows:

Offense
WR -- Conner Vernon, Duke (20)
WR -- Dwight Jones, North Carolina (26)
TE -- George Bryan, NC State (40)
T -- Blake DeChristopher, Virginia Tech (30)
T -- Andrew Datko, Florida State (29)
G --Brandon Washington, Miami (28)
G -- Omoregie Uzzi, Georgia Tech (21)
C --Tyler Horn, Miami (18)
QB -- E.J. Manuel, Florida State (23)
RB -- Montel Harris, Boston College (49)
RB -- Andre Ellington, Clemson (19)

Defense
DE -- Brandon Jenkins, Florida State (44)
DE -- Quinton Coples, North Carolina (38)
DT -- Tydreke Powell, North Carolina (21)
DT -- Brandon Thompson, Clemson (21)
LB --Luke Kuechly, Boston College (49)
LB --Sean Spence, Miami (35)
LB -- Kenny Tate, Maryland (23)
CB -- Chase Minnifield, Virginia (38)
CB -- Jayron Hosely, Virginia Tech (32)
S -- Ray Ray Armstrong, Miami (36)
S -- Eddie Whitley, Virginia Tech (17)

Specialists
PK -- Will Snyderwine, Duke (18)
P -- Dawson Zimmerman, Clemson (21)
SP -- Greg Reid, Florida State (22)

Congratulations to Luke and Montel who both continue to rack up the pre-season awards. Let's all hope that they play like all these awards are projecting they will.

Don’t know who didn’t vote for Kuechly, but I know Paul Strelow of Clemson247 didn’t vote for Harris. He posted his ballot earlier last week. Voted for Ellington and Lamar Miller of Miami. Harris and David Wilson would have been the next two guys on his list. I don’t know much about Miller, but Ellington is certainly deserving, and may have done enough to lead the voting if he’d played more than half of last season.

Not voting for Harris is far less criminal than not voting for Kuechly IMO

Agreed

But still inexcusable. Voting that way too “be different” or whatever is wrong. How can any ACC writer not think Luke is one of the topthree linebackers in the conference?

EJ Manuel is First team

what a joke! EJ has done very little so far in his career and does not deserve this AT ALL.

Shows how the vote is all about Southern homerism

Chase Minnifiled over Donnie Fletcher — wrong. Only thing going for Minnifield is a cool name and that he played with another guy witha cool name — Ras-I — but that is it. Fletcher is way better.

Nice to see Montel and Luke and the tow top vote getters!

Minnifield just has a ton of INTs … 10 through three seasons (1 better than Fletcher last year, and 1 better in career). CBs are tough to evaluate and I’m sure the media relies on stats here more than some other positions.

Don’t have too big of a problem with Minnifield over Fletcher.

Special Teams

i was hoping for some love for Freese and Quigley. Hopefully, Spaz allows Freese to kick some field goals over 40 yards.

Gotta give some love to Duke somewhere. Hence, Snyderwine.

Freese seems to get lost in the ACC kicker shuffle and was hurt by so few XP opportunities (since last year’s O didn’t get in the end zone very often).

Not unanimous

Anyone he didn’t vote for Luke should have his credentials revoked.

Right

How does a consensus All-American not get consensus All-ACC honors?

Honest Question

Is the Preseason All ACC team like the Major League All Star Game in that all teams get at least one representative?

I don’t believe so, no. Just a straight up vote of the 51 ACSMA members.
