ACC Football Kickoff 2011: Football Preseason Poll Released
Here are the results from the Atlantic Coast Conference's official 2011 ACC Football Preseason Poll. As you can see, it's Florida State, Virginia Tech and everyone else in the ACC this season. Boston College finished fourth in the Atlantic Division voting behind Florida State, Clemson and N.C. State, though they did receive two first place votes in the Atlantic Division and 1 ACC Champion vote.
D1scourse's Patrick Stevens breaks down the last six years of media picks measured against the actual outcome. Despite falling short of preseason expectations last season, the Eagles remain the most underrated (underappreciated?) program in the conference, finishing on average +1.08 spots higher than the average preseason media pick.
Georgia Tech is the Coastal Division's most underrated program, finishing +0.83 than the average media poll finish. On the other end of the spectrum, Florida State has fell short of preseason expectation by over 1 whole spot (-1.33), the worst in the conference, natch.

Clemson
I don’t get how a team that’s breaking in a new offense, new QB, and lost the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, and finished 6-7 last season gets 2nd place in the Atlantic Division. And I haven’t even mentioned their cross-divisional games (VT, UNC, GT). But then again, it’s Clemson we’re talking about. The ACC media loves drinking that orange kool-aid!
Also, according to the ACC’s Twitter page…BU has been picked to finish 4th in the Atlantic Division. sigh
BU? picked 4th?
Clemson is the anti-BC. While BC almost always exceeeds the low expectations of the preseason crowd, the high expectations for Clemson are rarely realized.
hence the traditonal late season whining by Clemson — and I do love the sound of the Clemson Whine, particularly the whine that starts at the Clemson Blog, Shakin’ My Johnson!

Yes
The ACC mistakenly referred to us as “BU” on their Twitter page when they announced the division picks. They eventually changed it after a bunch of people point out the error. It’s sad when our own conference can’t even get our name right.
Florida State
If FSU beats Oklahoma at home early, look out. OU blew them out last year. I miss Bobby Bowden but the new head coach has “lots of fire”. BC is in for a “rough ride”. If they can buckle on their chin strap tightly and Rogers is the real deal, then they will do well. If there is one caveat, it comes from the picture of Kuechly and Harris. Both are great players. However, neither appears to be the Herzlich emotional type. Clark Kent is great. However, someone needs to bring the emotion. As someone who has visited the campus, you find a “General Motors” mentality. If the wheel comes off the wagon, then just put on another wheel. If a trooper falls, then let him lie and get another “Paddy”.
BC over V-Tech
I’m surprised someone in the ACC media actually picked BC to win the ACC (hey Brian, did you sneak in there somehow haha?).
Think that was Jon Meterparel.
