ACC Baseball Championship Picture: Boston College Has Work To Do
Even after stealing a game from the number 1 team in the country, the Eagles have their work cut out for them if they hope to make this year's ACC Baseball Championship in Durham, NC. Here's a look at the current ACC standings:
7. N.C. State 11-13
8. Virginia Tech 9-15
-------------------
9. Wake Forest 7-14
10. Boston College 7-16
Remaining schedules:
N.C. State -- vs. Florida State, at Boston College
Virginia Tech -- vs. Clemson, vs. Georgia Tech
Wake Forest -- vs. Boston College, at Duke, at Maryland
Boston College - at Wake Forest, vs. N.C. State
You can probably write off Duke and Maryland. Both programs sit at 5-19 in ACC play.
Wake Forest has the easiest road of the teams currently in 7-10 place. The Deacons also have the most remaining games with an extra series in hand. Even with three games against the Eagles, Wake could easily beat up on Duke and/or Maryland and stay ahead of BC in the ACC Baseball Championship picture. Virginia Tech will have a tough go of things though with series against Clemson and Georgia Tech. If the Eagles can go 5-1 or 6-0 down the stretch, they may be able to jump the Hokies and the 'Pack to claim the eighth and final spot in the ACC Baseball Championship.
Certainly won't be easy, but at least the Eagles have a shot with just two series remaining.

More of the same
What’s going on? BC “stinks” in baseball. It definitely has something to do with Title IX. As elsewhere in the country, women’s sports are building up and men’s sports are deteriorating. At the same time (see current article), ticket sales are falling in all men’s sports. Women’s sports are not that attractive a draw while a “lousy” men’s team draws nobody. Unless they pick up the pace, this will be the same “fate” that football will suffer. Nobody loves a “loveable loser” and that is what you will have next year at BC without Mark Herzlich. The team will have no “sole” and will play “barefoot in the park” against teams that are coming into town to win with “big time” programs. Coughlin “had it”. Spaziani definitely “doesn’t have it”.
BC baseball is suffering because out stadium is a freakin joke and it’s cold. One of those problems can be solved. There’s plenty of baseball talent in New England. I hope Coach Gambino can do a better job of recruiting than Aoki did.
As to your football comment, chill out. Last year was terrible, no doubt, but Spaz has done a better job recruiting than TOB towards the end of his stay at BC and Jags. Our two best QB recruits since Matt Ryan came to The Heights are in the 2 most recent classes. Next year will be a little better, then the year after I’d expect to see something like 10-11 wins.

Is “sole” and “barefoot in the park” supposed to be play upon each other? Because even it is a typo, it had me laughing.
CFB is cyclical. And if you ask me, our team was already a loveable loser last year. With old man Tranq gone, I think the offense will get the job done.

As for baseball...
We’ve never, never, been a legitimate contender in baseball outside of our amazing run a few years ago. Since moving to the ACC, baseball has actually improved, along with a majority of our other sports. They’ve got a new coach and recruit hadn’t exactly been stellar in the past few years.

I smell
a troll. Or at least an alumni of ca. 1997 who thinks that BC athletics are going to Hell in a Handbasket.
