Around SBN: Now They've Screwed Spurs, UEFA Willing To Review Rule

"It’s hard to say that after one year because we want to see a progression of successes before you call a place a home,’’ Swofford said while speaking to the Raleigh Sports Club. "But the fact that Charlotte is within 300 miles of eight of our schools is a real plus, because it enhances the fact that you’re going to have at least one fan base that can drive in and out to the game. And Charlotte sold a little over 30,000 tickets before we knew which teams were going to be in the game. That’s not quite where we want or need for it to be, but it’s a great start."

What do folks think of this?

I think Charlotte is a great option for a full-time location. The stadium is right downtown, which is clutch for out of town visitor experience. Direct flights to Charlotte are easy from the Northeast.

I'm all for this

Only thing better would be a geographic rotation that included Foxboro … I kid, I kid.

2007 and 2008 ACCCGs

I traveled from the Northeast to both Jacksonville and Tampa and had to connect through Charlotte both times (USAir, of course). If the game was in Charlotte, I would have already been there.

Charlotte makes too much sense from both a geographic standpoint and as an ACC-friendly, East coast city. Jacksonville is a pro / SEC town that cared more about UF-UGA and the Gator Bowl than the ACCCG. Tampa is another pro town / Big East town? You can’t put the game in Miami, because as Virginia Tech fans showed, you aren’t going to travel to Miami twice in the span of a month for the Orange Bowl.

The other insurance Charlotte affords is if they get a Wake Forest or a Georgia Tech in the game, it’s close enough to both those schools that locals can make up for light fan travel.

The southern programs will bitch about the weather, but there isn’t a domed NFL stadium in ACC country that’s available (the SEC has dibs on the Georgia Dome), and Florida is just a travel nightmare for 3/4 (2/3?) of the conference.

Booooooooooooooooooooooooo

Let’s have it in the team’s home stadium. Guaranteed sellout.

'11: Minimum Goal: 9-3 Regular Season. Given FSU's non-con slate, don't care who the 9 are.
'10: 7th in offense, 41st in defense. Division Champions. 10-4. (6-3)
'09: 8th in offense, 88th in defense. 7-6 (4-4)

Yeah, right

You guys will be cool with this up until you have to travel to Blacksburg or Atlanta for the Championship Game based on some arbitrary home field tiebreaker. Overall conference record with the ACC’s unbalanced schedule? Head-to-head results even though the regular season game was at one team’s home field? Coin flip?

Then proceed to lose that game and Tomahawk Nation cries foul.

Even though ACC football isn’t up to SEC or Big Ten standards, this isn’t amateur hour (i.e. Pac 12), either …
