Pomeroy Has Boston College At No. 175

Last week, the most respected and referenced college hoops rankings, KenPom.com, published its 2011-12 projections. The site has Boston College at No. 175, comfortably between the WAC's Idaho and the Big 12's Texas Tech. Pomeroy projects a 10-18 (4-12 ACC) season for the Eagles.

Here's how Pomeroy sees Boston College's season playing out:

Sat Mar 3 25 Miami Hurricanes L, 76-60 62 9% Away

Look at the positives here. Umm ... Bryant must really suck? And, hey, we have an 11 percent chance of knocking off Duke at home! That said, the Eagles do have a 0.9 percent chance of going winless in the ACC. And may or may not lose their final 11 games in conference play. So there's that, too.

I believe Pomeroy adds up the percentages to get the overall W-L total. So while the individual games total 9-19 (1-15), the cumulative percentages add up to 10-18 (4-12).

That sounds like a pretty reasonable record given their inexperience.

Tough Team to Predict

With so many new faces playing on this roster, all these predictions are shots in the dark. I’m optimistic about this team and really excited to see what new guys step up this year.

We’ll know a lot more after the initial games and the early season Tourney they play in. That being said, should be one of the most fun BC teams to watch in a while.

if we press a lot

we can be very disruptive and win some more games – plenty of teams have no idea how really counter a consistently pressing squad. No idea if donahue is looking to do that. I recall Pitino (of all people) did it with a pretty poor Knicks team and got them to the playoffs (of course, they DID have Patrick Ewing).

Dennis Clifford will have to bulk up a little bit to get to Ewing’s size. That’s a lot of time in the weight room and mozzarella sticks from Late Night.

I Agree

Pretty hard to make accurate predictions with very little data on which to base them. If this is a motivated group (and it should be), they could surprise a lot of people!
