A Few Bright Spots From Last Night's Game (The very few)
Yes, BC fans, we all know about how this coaching staff is the worst one ever and that they need to go NOW, but there were a few diamonds in the thick rough last night. Here are a few.
Manny Asprilla: For a freshman, Asprilla played pretty well. He had a nice sack (especially considering the size difference between him and Manuel) and he also is a good special-teams player.
Spiffy Evans: Worked his butt off on kick returns. Probably the fastest player on the team, he repeatedly broke tackles on returns before he got injured.
The Linebackers: Luke Kuechly was at his best tonight and he certainly impressed NFL scouts. Steele Devitto had a few nice tackles and had a sack. Sean Duggan made a few plays, but he dropped a sure-fire pick-6.
Josh Bordner: BC ran his option plays way too far down. FSU couldn't stop him running the ball. Had a nice pass to Swigert, but he made a bad decision when Finch fumbled.

Bright spots..
there’s always a few. I attended the game last evening and my constant thought was this team was set up to fail. I was completely sold on that belief by the hideous play calling. Sure, Finch fumbled twice, though he never really got the ball on the second one, but that didn’t phase me. That didn’t lose the game or keep it from being competitive. The interception didn’t phase me either. The game plan was the WORSE I have ever witnessed. It was a GIVEN that the FSU strategy was to stop the run. They had seven or eight men in the box most of the night. Hello? Throw the ball and keep the backers honest will ya?! An NFL pro would not have had running room with 2 to 3 players in the backfield on almost every snap!
If BC does not get rid of SPAZ, then they are nuts! I feel bad for the players (ALL OF THEM) because they deserve better. And the BC fans, before you toss about your feelings about the players…take a look in the mirror. I’m not a BC Alum, but I like BC football so hear me out. The south end zone (FSU fans) drowned out the rest of the BC crowd the entire game. How can you call yourself a fan, when you won’t even stand up and support a young team that needed some form of encouragement. You’re no better than Spaz in his failure to motivate the players. They should rename Alumni Stadium the Alumni Tabernacle because it feels like you’re in church.
Lastly…to the BC players. Keep playing your hearts out despite the current conditions. Some of the worse lessons often have the most undesireable outcomes. Keep your heads up, get better,,,and don’t quit.
If SPAZ doesn’t take COMPLETE responsibility for last night, then the BC community needs to speak loudly, and with conviction, and demand his resignation.

It’s been a slow, painful, incremental process of decay from a once prominent East Coast program to a sweltering slums of crap city. The AD has done everything possible to destroy Football enthusiasm at the Heights from milking season ticket holders to insulting the regular fan base. The head coach’s facial expression and body language in every game reveals not only a defeated man but someone who’s sorely over-matched by the demands and rigors of the job. Bad character traits surface in moments of crisis and we’re seeing it unfold and displayed by Flip and Spaz—the two culprits for the mess.
So there’s a cause and effect for everything in life.

Good points. I would add that I’m also disappointed in Fr. Leahy and the Board of Trustees for allowing GDF such unbridled power that he has been allowed to run the football program as a personal fiefdom to serve his own ego, rather than as a reflection of BC excellence. Spaz is nothing more than his puppet, in way over his depth. Shame on those whose laxity has permitted this whole situation to exist. Don’t forget what football has done for BC-Flutie changed the profile of the school.

Bright spots....
Thats hilarious. You know what I saw? I saw a team that has always played an ugly brand of football, finally exposed by a competent FSU team and staff. The days of beating FSU and acting like you’ve won the Superbowl have been replaced with being beaten down, outclassed, and overmatched at every single position on the field….And still acting like you’ve won the Superbowl. BC will never come within 2 tds of FSU as long as Jimbo is our coach. I really wish we could just pay the Big East to take you back, but unfortunately the Louisvilles and UCFs of the world don’t want their strength of schedule drug down by your joke of a program.

And FSU fans will be FSU fans as long as trolls like you roam the internets.
Troll hard, friend. Troll hard.

Maybe FSU should go to the BIg East
You have the class of a West Virginny fan for sure. At least BC, for all its ups and downs, isn’t the third most important program in its state.
I think you are on to something here, Lothar17. Surely Florida State would win more football titles in the Big East than they have in the post-expansion ACC.

I suspect it is a WfVU fan. Troll on.

“BC will never come within 2 tds of FSU as long as Jimbo is our coach.”
You probably also said this about Wake Forest earlier this year.

As I said before....
The potential for next year should be very good IF Harris and Momah come back healthy and, if, and it’s the biggest if, Kuechly stays to graduate. He seems like a classy guy to begin with — but it would surely show class if he decides to stay! But someone needs to solve the problem of too many injuries, especially during practices. Maybe the conditioning coaches are the one who really need to be replaced.
Oh and....
What happened to the play using Amidon in the reverse that worked so well against Maryland? Totally absent!
Because FSU’s run defense is a completely different class than Maryland. Way too fast, they would have blown that play up quickly.

I've already decided that Spiffy Evans...
…is my favourite college football player name for 2011.
