New York Giants' Mark Herzlich To Start Against Philadelphia Eagles

Photo

With New York Giants starting outside linebacker Michael Boley battling a hamstring injury, Boston College's Mark Herzlich may get his first start as a New York Giant today against the Philadelphia Eagles. According to Coach Coughlin, Herzlich will get the start over Greg Jones, Jacquian Williams and Spencer Paysinger.

"I'm itching to get out there on defense," Herzlich said.

Coughlin said Herzlich would get the nod over Jones and the team's two other rookie linebackers, Jacquian Williams and Spencer Paysinger, because of Herzlich's smarts and knowledge of the defense.

"We want to see what [Herzlich] can do and how he will play in there," Coughlin said. "We already experienced the fact that he communicates well. He seems to know the defense and he can get us lined up."

Herzlich has played in all nine games for the Giants this year, but all his snaps have been on special teams. Here's hoping that Herzlich gets some snaps on the first team defense and makes a few big plays.

The 6-3 New York Giants host the 3-6 Philadelphia Eagles tonight on NBC's Sunday Night Football (8:20 PM start). Go Eagles Herzlich!

2/3 of the Giants starting linebackers are BC tonight — Kiwi and Herzlich.

Draft Kuechly and my NFL allegiances will sorely be tested.

Draft Kuechly and I may die of multiple orgasms. If they win the division they might be picking a wee bit too late for him, though they’re in love with pass rushers, and that’s not really his game (or BC’s for that matter).

I was a Giants fan a decade before I was a BC fan, but the strong ties the two have with each other have really worked out well for me. Any more BC players and it’ll be Boston College, East Rutherford Campus.

Can you imagine if they did? The Giants start 3 BC linebackers…you think that would do wonders for recruiting? You know it would be a major talking point for all broadcasters…

On a personal level I sure wouldn’t have an issue with it. If it helps keep the pipeline of good LBs open, I’m all for it.

Adding Kuechly onto an NFL team with 2 other standout BC defensive players, a solid OL, a BC coach, and a BC owner would be quite something.

Is this kid amazing?

After what we were all witness to over his five years at BC, does what he will do tonight and what I am sure he will do down the road surprise anyone? Herzlich is truly one of the great stories in the history of Boston College football, a source of pride for all us and an inspiration to many more than will ever see what he does on a football field. Screw the Pats…Go Mark Herzlich! Go BC!

I hope

Vince Young can channel his inner Riley Skinner this evening. But seriously this is great to hear and it is definitely getting harder to not be a New York Giants.

Final grade C-

Some good plays, but not good on pass coverage

If Chris Collins is right – and he usually is correct – Herzlich’s poor pass coverage skills lead to last Philly TD.

Funny, Kiwi’s bad coverage was cause of other Philly TD.

Wonder if Herzy keeps his spot next week?

Perhaps a fitting end for a dog shit BC weekend

Truly an awful, awful sports weekend for BC.

Collinwsorth is the worst commentator on TV.

He said Helmet-to-Helmet hits are fair game when the runner is looking up,

Said it was “Awesome” when Ware got hit helmet-to-helmet which resulted in a concussion

Instead of praising Amukamara on his 1st interception on his second play ever, he repeadily stated that he was lucky and said he wasn’t a good player

That being said, when he blasted Herzlich repeatedly, he lost validity of everything he said.

I still can’t get that 1.1 seconds out of my mind.
