2010 Boston College Eagles Football: Weber State Game Thread (1:00 PM ET, ESPN3.com)
Weber St. Wildcats at Boston College Eagles, Sep 4, 2010 1:00 PM EDT
Weber State Wildcats (0-0) vs. Boston College Eagles (0-0)
Time: 1:00 EST
Date: Saturday, Sep. 4, 2010
Place: Alumni Stadium, Chestnut Hill, MA
TV: Nope ... only ESPN3.com
Spread: Off
Weather: Partly Cloudy / Wind, high 78 degrees
Series: First meeting between BC and Weber State
Trends: BC is 2-1 all time against teams from Utah (Brigham Young three times). The Eagles also played the USS Utah in a scintillating 22-0 victory back in 1919. BC has won 18 straight games against teams from college football's lower division, a streak that dates back to 1978.
BC won 6 of 7 games at home last season, with the lone loss coming at the hands of the UNC Tar Heels. Since joining the ACC in 2005, the Eagles own a 29-5 record while playing at Alumni Stadium. BC is also 45-7 in non-conference play since 2000.
A new season of college football is finally upon us. After what seems like an excruciatingly long offseason, the Boston College Eagles football team will run out of the tunnel and onto the Alumni Stadium turf for the first time since a disappointing 31-13 loss to North Carolina in the 2009 regular season home finale. All eyes will be on Mark Herzlich as he returns to the field for the first time since the 2008 Music City Bowl.
Dave Shinskie has been named the starting QB for the Eagles, but expect to see a healthy dose of both Shinskie and fellow sophomore Mike Marscovetra under center. Another thing to keep an eye on is the performance of the Eagles underclassmen. Twelve of the 47 players on the Eagles' two-deep roster are either freshmen or redshirt freshmen. True freshman WLB Kevin Pierre-Louis is the only frosh starting for the Eagles.

Herzlich to start
According to ESPN’s Tom Rinaldi. Awesome.

Harris looking good so far
Game plan: run the offense through Harris, please

we wont beat v-tech with shinskie throwing ducks all over the field
but good to see him go through a couple of reads before throwing
And lined up not under center, causing a Game of Delay penalty on the very first down …

I could never permanently live in Europe. They make it too difficult over here to watch college football.

I don’t think it’s any indication that Spaz is favoring one over the other. Figured both would get some time in the first half.

ACC scores
Florida State 59, Samford 6 4Q — yikes
Georgia Tech 20, South Carolina St. 3 3Q
BC and Georgia Tech winning, but not looking good doing it.

Kaleb Ramsey
Out with a concussion. Will not return.

Glad we have Kent State next week, not VT.
We need to have some bigger bodies in the middle for the Williams.
I was also happy to see that Scaife was dressed even if he didn’t play.
The lack of pressure on the QB is still very … concerning.

Oh without a doubt.
But if we aren’t going to be able to rush the passer we have to clog the line on the runs.
Montel Harris goes over 100 yards ...
For five straight games now. 14 in career.

Will be interesting to see if Spaz still favors him next week.

He shouldn’t be forcing things this late in the game. Also, how do you miss Momah? The guy is a HUGE target.

Yep. The fact that he got his hands on the ball at all.....
….with that awful pass shows you how big of a player he could be for this team.
Its too bad the QB situation is a mess.
Shinskie is in at QB.
I think the real question should be why are we punting from so deep in our own territory?
The scary part about this game is the supposed strength of our team, defense
Has been dominated by Weber State’s offense in the second half.
The second half defense eft a lot to be desired, that’s for sure.

Another turnover. You have got to be kidding me.
This is awful. Can’t score a touchdown on offense. Awful.
There are few starters left in the game, but agree. You hate to see that late TD. 38-20.

Some bright spots but a lot of issues.
So, I left the game in the 3rd when it was in check and I couldn’t stand another $3.50 Dasani.
Shinskie looks awful. Discounting that first pick, he was holding the ball when receivers were getting separation and the O-line was protecting well, he was forcing bad throws, overthrowing open Harris out of the backfield, and looked more like a I-AA QB.
The O-line looked good but not amazing. They weren’t pushing the Weber D line around like I expected and we saw a lot of 1 and 2 yard rushes from Harris.
The skill position players looked good. I didn’t see a ton of drops of the WRs and Harris looks like last year’s version, if not better.
The D-line got no pressure. Not a good sign.
The LB corps looked awesome. Not a surprise. 94 looked solid, if slightly rusty. Expected and inspiring.
The secondary looked downright scary…and not in a good way. Kent State, a team with a QB that could be playing for a number of “better” programs (and a team that destroyed their comp today) will throw all day long after watching game tape and seeing our secondary get picked apart.

This made me laugh out loud.

You didn’t miss much. The second half was a snoozer.

I would have liked to have seen more from Marscovetra. I think he can challenge for the starting job but you don’t really know what you’ve got when he throws 3 times.
Hopefully we see more of him next week against Kent State.

I think you can pretty much count on it, unless Spaziani didn’t pay attention to the game. Shinskie was simply not good enough, and now you can certainly justify giving other QBs (namely Marscovetra) some respectable playing time.
