Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

On his first day as BC coach, Donahue reached out to some of the most influential figures in New England youth basketball, hoping to repair crucial relationships that frayed during Skinner’s 13-year tenure. The list of elite Division 1 players from New England who have shunned BC in recent years include Erik Murphy (Florida), Nate Lubick (Georgetown), Jordan Williams (Maryland), Alex Oriakhi (Connecticut), and Carson Desrosiers (Wake Forest).

"Some terrific players have left the region, for whatever reason,’’ Donahue said. "That’s why I wanted to reach out to those guys.’’

"He’s doing all the right things,’’ Gassnola said. "Without a doubt, he’s going to change the impression some of us had of BC basketball.’’’

At BC, his heart is in it

Shows you how bad a shape Al Skinner left the team in and it is amazing how a local college coach could be so detached from local lower level basketball coaches.

BC is not a local driven school- we leave that for state schools (UCONN)

with the exception of Jordan Williams i’m not too worried about local talent in the area. Everyone knows the best basketball players come from NY/NJ. (im sure that will rile some people up)

And do we need to alienate existing players/recruits to re-commit to local products (even if they arent ACC caliber?)

Not many people are going to argue that the best players come from local schools

But there are certainly plenty of very good talents that come out of local schools that we haven’t even sniffed here at BC.

Don't care about local talent

What’s more concerning to me is the lack of inroads BC basketball has made recruiting players from ACC territory.

Our current scholarship player roster by state: 2 Colorado, Louisiana, New Jersey, Connecticut, Michigan, Texas. What’s up with that?

BC football has been very successful over the last ten years setting up recruiting pipelines in Cincinnati and New Jersey. To be successful, we need to establish similar pipelines in ACC states. Position BC as a solid program that competes for Tobacco Road talent.

Agreed.

Obviously we need to start improving our recruiting, just my point was that the best way to start is to improve our local talent.
