Sources: Steve Donahue To Be Named Next Coach of Boston College

According to FOX Sports' Jeff Goodman, Boston College is expected to hire Cornell head coach Steve Donahue as the next head coach of the Eagles. Donahue has spent the last 10 seasons at Cornell, winning three straight Ivy League Titles and advancing the Big Red to this year's Sweet 16.

Not a big surprise

It was becoming clear that it was Donahue’s job to lose.

I’m reasonably optimistic about the future of BC basketball right now.

Well the motion offense should be interesting to watch.

expectations

Expectations for this upcoming season…..low.

we are not a good outside or inside shooting team, and well its a completely new offense.

I hope our fans can be patient.

I actually think we’ll be OK next year so long as the core group of players embraces Donahue as coach. The motion offense is infinitely less complicated than the Flex, and most of the teams that finished above BC in the ACC this year have key departures (e.g. Malcolm Delaney, Trevor Booker and Oliver Purnell, Ish Smith and Aminu, etc.)

Donahue will have to whip these guys into good shape for next season. He does that, I think the new offense will be fun to watch.

defense

can anyone fill me in on what type of defense he ran at cornell, if any?

I hope brian, that you are right, but the core group of players isnt exactly the most talented bunch, and the motion offense is heavily dependent on good mid-to outside shooting. I think we miss the tourney again, well unless its 96 teams. If its 96 teams, Donahue should be fired if we cant make that sorry excuse for a tourney.

If he coaches some defense, isn’t that better than no defense?

I dont get it

GDF wanted a coach that plays defense… this seems about opposite IMO (unless it was a case of the Ivy League players not being athletic enough)

I predict big things

Shooting is important in the motion offense but the main goal is to get shots going towards the hoop.

BC has a lot of good talent at the wing positions which are needed for the motion offense. Players that were hurt by the flex offense.

Renewed enthusiasm plus a veteran team equals a top 7 seed in next years tournament.

It's official

BC just sent us an email saying Donahue’s gonna be in the dustbowl tomorrow at 5 giving out prizes and stuff.

We should be very good next year

Wasn’t Sanders suppose to emerge as an NBA talent player this year before the injury? Well most likely he will next year, and maybe even another senior will step up, then we have Jackson who could very well be that third player, Heslip should be good considering he’s already been with the team and Noreen is averaging almost 40 points in highschool. I don’t understand this negativity, I’m pretty sure we can all agree our players are alot better than they showed this year.

They are better than they showed (well, most of them anyway), and with the right coaching, I think BC could get back up close to their 2008-2009 levels when they were a tournament-caliber team. No real reason they can’t.

It remains to be seen, but I’m hopeful that Donahue can at least eliminate the WTF losses with solid coaching. Hell, maybe we’ll even get an inbounds play out of it.
