Rakim Sanders Leaving Boston College
According to both FOX Sports and WEEI, Boston College's Rakim Sanders plans to leave the men's basketball program. Where Sanders will end up is still unknown. He'll likely have to sit out a year and will have one year of eligibility remaining.
Sanders averaged 11.3 points, 3.7 rebounds per game last year as part of a largely disappointing junior campaign.
With coaching changes, you expect some player turnover. Superfans have to be hoping though that Sanders' departure doesn't trigger a larger exodus. As of now, BC returns their top three scorers (Joe Trapani, Reggie Jackson and Corey Raji) and four of five starters from last year's 15-16 team.
Best of luck to Sanders as he looks to finish up his college career.

Andy Katz reports...
that it’s most likely Fairfield. Makes sense with Cooley there.
That was one of my guesses, along with Northeastern, URI and (don’t laugh) Bryant.

sad times
I hope the freshmen can come in and contribute immediately, because we’ll need it to be included in even a 96 team tournament.
He was definitely the most talented player on the team, but never realized that potential. Looks like Cooley might steal him away and showcase him as the go to player.
All i wonder is whether this was a decision made because of Skinner’s departure OR whether his mind was made up at the end of the season
If Skinner was still here
We’re probably not having this conversation.
At the end of the day, Rakim will go down as a BC player with huge potential but ended up being a disappointment.

Wow thats selfish
No other reason to join freakin Fairfield
Poor choice
He is the perfect play for Donahue’s system, can run the court and finish strong as well as knock down the jumper.
i agree that he would benefit from Donahue's offense
But he might have been benched for lack of effort.
In the end he’s got to think about himself. I really think he could make an NBA roster if he shows that’s he ready to commit to keeping himself healthy and stays aggressive on both sides of the floor.
Some of me doubts whether he really cares, because i dont think waiting a year to play is a smart move. Maybe he’ll assume he’ll dominate on Fairfield rather than sharing the spotlight at BC against good competition.
If this were two years ago, I would be super pissed
….but Rakim has just no given the effort and heart into become the top notch player he could have become. Its unfortunate.
Rakim leaving is one thing
But now I’m worried about a domino effect. Him jumping ship could give others the impetus to do the same. Perhaps I’m being irrational, but now I would not be surprised if all of the incoming freshman bail out. They might have anyway, but this certainly won’t help. We’ve already heard that Noreen and Ndao are in limbo, and Heslip’s Twitter statements have been vague and concerning to some. I hope they all stay, but it could happen.
I have to reiterate though, my position is the same as Donahue’s: if they don’t want to be here, they know where the door is.

What does a BC basketball player have to say on Twitter to have some concerned?

Question is moot … Heslip has also requested a transfer from Donahue.
