2009-2010 Boston College Men's Basketball: N.C. State Game Thread

Boston College Eagles at N.C. State Wolfpack, Mar 7, 2010 2:00 PM EST

Bostoncollege_medium vs. Ncstate_medium

Boston College Eagles (15-14, 6-9 ACC) at N.C. State Wolfpack (16-14, 4-11 ACC)

Time: 2:00 EST
Date:
Sunday, Mar. 7, 2010
Place:
RBC Center (cap. 19,722), Raleigh, N.C.
TV:
Raycom

The Line: N.C. State -2

Last Time Out: The Eagles defeated Virginia 68-55 to move to 15-14 (6-9 ACC).

Series:
Boston College leads the all-time series 7-2.
Last Meeting at RBC Center:
 N.C. State 74, Boston College 69 (Mar. 4, 2009)

Trends: BC is 1-6 on the road in the ACC this season. N.C. State has lost their regular season finale in each of the last 5 seasons. The Wolfpack is just 5-10 in their last 15 games.

N.C. State's 2008-2009 Record:  16-14 (6-10 ACC)

Probable Starters:

  • G - Javier Gonzalez (Jr.) - 5'11", 175 lbs., Carolina, Puerto Rico - 10.2 PPG, 3.3 RPG
  • G - Farnold Degand (Sr.) - 6'4", 170 lbs., Boston, Ma. - 5.9 PPG, 2.5 RPG
  • G/F - Scott Wood (Fr.) - 6'7", 170 lbs., Marion, In. - 7.9 PPG, 3.0 RPG
  • F - Dennis Horner (Sr.) - 6'9", 226 lbs., Linwood, N.J. - 11.7 PPG, 4.9 RPG
  • F - Tracy Smith (Jr.) - 6'8", 247 lbs., Detroit, Mi. - 17.0 PPG, 7.8 RPG

Finally, after a roller coaster season, we've reached the end of the line - BC and NC State in the regular season finale. This game is for little more than bragging rights and momentum going into the ACC Tournament, as both the Eagles and the Wolfpack are locked into the number 8 and 11 seeds, respectively.

BC dunk of the year?

Reggie Jackson on Miami’s Reggie Johnson …

They just showed it again on the Raycom video montage lead-in.

Good start for the Eagles

2 minutes and change in. NC State can’t get anything going offensively. 6-0 BC.

Despite all the empty seats

This might be the largest crowd BC has played in front of all season, right?

by Jeff @ BCI on Mar 7, 2010 2:13 PM EST reply actions

I think the only arena in the ACC that is bigger is the Dean Dome, so … yes?

Wake’s arena holds 14K. Might have been the Wake game.

We've played in front of 10,000+ four times this season

Providence, Michigan, Clemson, Wake.

But all were less than 11,000

by Jeff @ BCI on Mar 7, 2010 2:19 PM EST up reply actions

Attendance at the Wake game was 10,832. Providence game was. 10,782. Michigan game .. 10,718.

NC State has gotten 14,000+

for every ACC home game. So today might be lower than 14,000 for them but still enough to be the biggest crowd BC has played in front of.

BC-Duke at Greensboro Coliseum will be the biggest crowd of the year.

Huge dunk by Trapani in transition. I didn’t know he could get up that high!

BC should be up by more than 4 at this point

Two BS offensive calls on Reggie Jackson. WTH.

Big block by Rakim. It is a disaster/adventure every time BC feeds it down low to Southern.

Bad 3PA by Trapani

There, I said it. Skinner needs a timeout here. 12-10 NC State.

Game of runs so far

BC starts 10-4
NC St goes 14-2
BC goes 8-0

Getting us to our current 20-18 BC lead

14-2 NC State run and Skinner called how many timeouts? 0? 1?

NC State women gonna fall to Duke in the ACC Championship

I think N.C. State is the only program to not have won an ACC Championship in any sport since BC joined the conference.

Not so much from Sanders. Another game in which he just seems off. 1-of-4 shooting.

Ugly first half

NC State 24-23. Lowest scoring first half of the season?

Reggie hardly played because of 2 fouls

We’re down 1 at half but I’m not too worried. I think Skinner sat Trapani longer than he normally would have also if the game had more meaning.

by Jeff @ BCI on Mar 7, 2010 2:50 PM EST reply actions

Reggie picked up both fouls on the offensive end of the floor. Both very questionable calls in my opinion.

I generally dislike Vasquez as a player, but you have to tip your hat to him this year.

I don’t think that foul was intentional on Southern though.

Bad sequence from Roche

Gets his own rebound from his 3 attempt and throws up another brick.

BC 0-for-9 from 3 point range.

And was too strong on the second, but made his next long jumper

Nice shot by Jackson

BC takes the lead 32-30.

3 fouls on Javier Gonzalez

That’s big for BC.

38-34

Hopefully no looking back now

by Jeff @ BCI on Mar 7, 2010 3:23 PM EST reply actions

With Gonzalez on the bench, BC can really key in on Tracy Smith. He’s their entire offense.

Disgusted at how bad the N.C. State player defending Reggie’s flop was. That’s why he’s had two offensive fouls called against him?

3-5 now

And it’s afternoon/daytime here on the east coast. I don’t know about Chicago.

You would think this game actually counts for something.

Can't believe what I'm seeing

Reggie misses free throw, then a layup. BC about to be down 7

Points off turnovers

NC State 17, BC 8. Ouch.

I might be more disappointed in this team right now ...

Than at any other point in the season. Nevermind the losses to Maine, Harvard, Saint Joseph’s and URI.

What happened?

I’m with you. I don’t know if it really means anything for ACCT but still very discouraging.

by Jeff @ BCI on Mar 7, 2010 3:53 PM EST up reply actions

16-16

And this team solidifies it’s place as the second worse BC team of the decade.
