Asked if Tennessee’s Bruce Pearl, a BC alumnus and Massachusetts native, would be too pricey for the Eagles, DeFilippo said: "We’re going to pay what we have to pay to get the right person. We just really are. This is an important hire for us." However, DeFilippo said he has had no contact with Pearl and does not consider him a candidate. "At this point, no, he’s not," DeFilippo said. "That doesn’t mean he couldn’t be at another time.

I support this move if only to see the battle of obnoxious red jackets between Pearl and Lowe.

Can Gene's ego and Pearl's ego co-exist?

two questions
1) has there ever been a division 1 men’s basketball female coach?
2) what if we target some ex-NBA coaches. I know success doesnt translate from NCAA to NBA, but could it the other way round?
Jeff Van Gundy?
Lawrence Frank?
If you're going to get Pearl, you have to say so publicly
See, if Pearl was a candidate, DeFilippo would announce that to Dennis and Callahan. He would tell them as well as ESPN that of course he’s trying to bring in Bruce Pearl. He would spell out the terms of his offer so that Tennessee understands what they’re up against.
Obviously, that’s what Bruce Pearl would want DeFilippo to do. If things work out, then great. Tennessee learned a lot dealing with the Kiffin thing, and so they’ll be fine going out and getting someone else. If things don’t work out with BC, Pearl can simply tell the Tennessee people that that he negotiated publicly with DeFilippo but that they couldn’t come to an agreement. He would then thank Tennessee for their loyalty and understanding as he grants them service at UT until he finds a preferable situation. As this is a win-win for Tennessee, they will more than understand Pearl doing what he needs to do.

Could we get
The coach at Butler or Tubby Smith?
by Jiftastic on Mar 31, 2010 2:15 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
Butler's coach isn't going to BC.
He’s happy being at Butler, building that program and living in his hometown (he grew in the Indy suburbs). And given how Thad Matta is the only Butler coach to find success outside Butler, I think Stevens realizes the grass isn’t always greener.

As for Tubby, I think he’ll either get a contract extension at Minnesota or bolt to Oregon.
