The Basketball Talent Drain

I know players come and go, and this might be a product of Skinner looking for the next "diamond in the rough," but has any Division I program lost more talent over the last 10 years that BC?

Since I was a freshman, 53 players have been on the BC roster. Eighteen of them have either transferred or been dismissed. That's a little under 34 percent of the roster over the past 10 years. Granted not of all of these players were significant losses, but I still think the 34 percent number is significant.

Check out the list of players who have left the BC hoops program over the last 10 years.

Dismissed from Team

  • Ryan Sidney
  • Andrew Bryant
  • Akida McLain
  • Sean Williams

Transfers

  • Andrew Dudley (to St. Peter's)
  • Ludmil "Udo" Hadjisotirov (to Maine)
  • Kirsten Zoellner (to Albany)
  • Adoyah Evans-Miller (to LMU)
  • Tavio Hobson (to Sacred Heart)
  • Johnnie Jackson (to Ohio)
  • Devon Evertsen (to Grand Canyon)
  • Steve Hailey (to Iona)
  • Gordon Watt (to Purdue)
  • Marquez Haynes (to UT-Arlington)
  • Evan Neisler (to Drexel)
  • Daye Kaba (to Marist)
  • Shamari Spears (to Charlotte)
  • Brennan Bennett (to Salem State)

Thoughts?

let me do a quick run down of Tech...

Since 2002-2003 season, Tech has 22 guys that have gone through 4 years of hoops at Tech (or transferred in to finish junior/senior season). Tech has lost the following characters to early departures since 2003:

Chris Bosh (NBA)
Ed Nelson (UConn)
Jim Nystrom (Europe)
Jarrett Jack (NBA)
Zam Frederck (South Carolina)
Ra’Sean Dickey (Europe)
Thaddeus Young (NBA)
Javaris Crittenton (NBA)
Paco Diaw (NAIA Lee University)
Mouhammad Faye (SMU)

So that’s 10 out of 32 guys finishing four years of hoops for Tech. 31.25% incompletion percentage.

I spun around... and there I was, face-to-face with a six-year old kid. Well, I just threw my guns down and walked away. Little bastard shot me in the ass.

BC hasn’t had any players leave early for the NBA. I wasn’t even thinking about this when writing the above. I was strictly talking about transfers and dismissals.

It’s surprising that two of your guys decided to transfer to other high-profile D1 programs. The closest we came to that is Purdue.
