ACC Basketball Home/Road Splits

You are hearing more and more statements like "it's hard to win on the road in the ACC." On the surface, that statement seems to make sense, but just how pronounced is home court advantage in the ACC this season?

Here is a look at the home/road split of ACC wins and losses. The trend isn't surprising. What is surprising is the magnitude of the home court advantage. Road teams are a paltry 22-56 (.286). Contrast that with home teams record of 55-22 (.714).

The biggest offender on the road is Miami, who are the proud owners of an 0-7 mark with one road game to go. At home, Maryland leads the way with a 7-0 home record while three other programs check in with 6-0 records (Duke, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech).

I guess the question should be...

“What does home court advantage mean with respects to conference strength?”

ACC is 56-22 at home this year (71.8%)
Big 10 is 47-37 at home this year (56.0%)
Big East is 74-46 at home this year (61.7%)

Pretty interesting comparison of depth, to me.

I spun around... and there I was, face-to-face with a six-year old kid. Well, I just threw my guns down and walked away. Little bastard shot me in the ass.

The ACC is deeper. There isn’t as much dead wood laying around towards the bottom of the conference (Rutgers, DePaul, etc.). That would be my guess as to why the Big East is 10 percentage points lower.

very true

Miami, our worst team, is undefeated OOC. The problem with the media is that all of these Big East squads are gonna get high seeds and play Charleston Southern and Prairie View in the first round while ACC squads are relegated to PO-ed midmajors and other major conference teams.

Don’t pretend like you’re sad about that. We don’t need your sympathy …
