Hockey Takes Merrimack to the Woodshed, Wins 7-0

2/23/2010 - Boston College 7, Merrimack 0 - 19-10-2, 14-8-2 Hockey East

Cam Atkinson scored a hat-trick to lead Boston College (19-10-2, 14-8-2 Hockey East) to a 7-0 shutout victory over Merrimack. Atkinson's hat-trick comes just two days after linemate Brian Gibbons achieved the feat in a 7-1 win over Northeastern. Atkinson opened up the scoring just 8:24 into the first period.

The Atkinson-Joe Whitney-Gibbons continues their tear, accounted for 8 points on the night. Joe Whitney tallied 3 assists while Gibbons had a goal and an assist. Gibbons two points pushed his season total to 42, good for 8th place on the list of national scoring leaders. BC's top line now has 109 of the team's 312 points on the season, nearly 35 percent of the total offensive production.

The Eagles' special teams unit continues to stay hot, converting on 2 of 4 power plays and adding a short-handed goal on the night.

Parker Milner got his second start in as many games, stopping 17 shots before giving way to backup goaltender Chris Venti for the final 4:48.

Hockey East All-Decade Team

During tonight's game, Hockey East announced the results of their All-Decade Team voting.

The following Eagles were honored: Scott Clemmensen (1997-2001), Cory Schneider (2004-07), Mike Mottau (1996-2000), Brooks Orpik (1998-2001), Rob Scuderi (1997-2001), Andrew Alberts (2001-05), Brian Gionta (1997-2001), Ben Eaves (2004-04), Ryan Shannon (2001-05), Patrick Eaves (2002-05), Brian Boyle (2003-07) and Nathan Gerbe (2005-08).

Can't say I disagree with that list considering it looks very similar to our own BC All-Decade Team.

Up Next

Only 3 more regular season games remain. BC completes the season series with Massachusetts at Conte Forum Friday, before traveling to New Hampshire for next weekend's home-and-home series.

Go Eagles!
