2010-11 Boston College Hockey: Boston University Game Thread (7:30 PM EDT, CBSCS)

Bu_medium vs. Bostoncollege_medium

#3 Boston University (7-2-5, 5-2-4 Hockey East) at #8 Boston College Eagles (10-5-0, 8-4-0 Hockey East)

Time: 7:30 EDT
Date: Saturday, December 4, 2010
Place: Kelley Rink, Conte Forum (cap. 7,884), Chestnut Hill, Ma.
TV: CBSCS
Internet Radio: BCEagles.com (Jon Rish play-by-play and Ken Hodge color)
Internet Video: Video stream available on a pay-per-view basis through BCEagles.com

Last Time Out: The Eagles defeated BU 9-5 to move to 10-5-0 (8-4-0 Hockey East) on the year.

Series: BU leads the all-time series 125-109-17.

Last Meeting: Boston College 9, Boston University 5 (December 3, 2010)
Last Meeting at Conte Forum: Boston University 5, Boston College 4 (OT) (January 22, 2010)

Boston University's Leading Scorers: So. Alex Chiasson (5-9-14), Jr. David Warsofsky (5-9-14), Fr. Sahir Gill (4-10-14)
Boston University's Leading Goaltender: Jr. Kieran Millan (4-1-5, 2.61 GAA, .919 SV%)

Despite last night's final score, BC put in a thoroughly dominating performance in a 9-5 win over BU. The Eagles tallied 37 shots on goal, went 3 of 8 on the power play, held the BU power play to 3 goals of 15 chances and added a short-handed goal. It took all of 3 goals on 10 shots in the first period for the Eagles to chase BU goaltender Kieran Millan from net.

Cam Atkinson added 2 goals to his team-high 13 goals this season, and nearly had a natural hat trick if not for a penalty called on Joe Whitney (hitting after the whistle). Atkinson beat BU goalie Grant Rollheiser on a breakaway, but the goal was disallowed after the referees blew the whistle on Whitney.

Speaking of penalties, hopefully we can get through a game with less than 27 penalties tonight. Tim Benedetto and Tom Fryer definitely lost control of the game last night. Let the kids play.

As for my prediction tonight, let's break out the brooms by playing the hot hand in John Muse.

Go Eagles!

Prediction: Boston College 4, Boston University 2
Record-to-date: 7-6-0

Even though we're down 1

I still like the pressure we’re getting in their zone… keep taking shots and good things will happen

Kieran Millan

Looks much more dialed in than last night. He was just BAD last night.

Great goal by Atkinson. 14th goal of the season.

Early Hobey Baker candidate?

Got to think so right now, especially with the showing he’s having this weekend against the “#2” team in the country.

Maine’s Gustav Nyquist is also pretty ridiculous.

End 1 - BU 1, BC 1

Pretty even half. BC might have had a slight edge in the period.

BC had a great begninning and end to that half, but BU stayed with it. This is what I expected last night– a pretty even contest.

Is CBSCS affiliated with BU?

What is up with all the praise of BU?
Keys of the game … for BU.

The announcers aren’t very impartial.

Yeah, they said BU had the momentum going into the 2nd Period… are we watching the same game? BC scored last and they had good pressure at the end of the period.

And last night

It was all “praise BU for coming back from a 6-1 deficit.” No mention that 3 of their 5 goals came on power plays, many of them that were gifted to the Terriers.

Parker needed that TO. Game was getting away from the Terriers (yet again).

I can’t stand Parker, but I have to admit he’s a great coach. That TO saved the game. BU answers right back.

No doubt. Smart TO, and BU responded. This one is far from over.

Although the way these PKs are going, it probably doesn’t matter.

Whitney!

Again! Great pass, and spectacular finish! They’ve got Millan running scared every time there’s a breakaway.

This weekend shows...

…the type of team BC can be this year. Slow start to the season after the Denver sweep, hopefully a 14 goal weekend against your biggest rival turns things around and they can carry this performance into 2011.

Indeed

Hopefully this is a turning point to the season. Seems like we will be relying exclusively on Muse as much as we can though. That worries me.
